Did Vice Ganda Finally Name Ex-Boyfriend in GGV Episode?

This is supposed to be an open secret, anyway; but something that comedic superstar Vice Ganda has never publicly admitted. It has been public knowledge for sometime that he had college basketball star for a boyfriend; and that the star had graduated and moved on to a PBA club.

This became public in an episode of Gandang Gabi Vice when the supposed boyfriend called during taping and the call was patched onto a public address system and broadcast to the entire nation. But since Vice refused to name the caller, ostensibly to protect his reputation, he also inadvertently started a name game.

In one episode of the noontime variety show “It’s Showtime,” host Billy Crawford went mischievously gaga over one guest performer from the ‘madlang people’ whose nickname was RR.

It seemed at the time that Crawford was hinting that the mystery man was then-FEU player RR Garcia.

Was the whole thing scripted? If it was, then it was masterfully crafted. There was no explicit admission of anything but the way the conversation went on, the public was informed of the mystery man’s identity without losing deniability.
Vice then supposedly broke up with this boyfriend and turn to social media to air his anguish. He tweeted, “i TRied but im TiRed. time To Rest.”

The capitalisation of the letters ‘T’ and ‘R’ had people quickly coming to the conclusion that the boyfriend, after all, was Terrence Romeo.

By this time, Romeo had graduated from FEU, where he was Garcia’s teammate, and had been drafted to play in the PBA by Global Port. Romeo publicly denied that he ever had a relationship with the comedian.

Vice, for his part, publicly admitted that he had ended his relationship with the mystery man but still refused to put forth a name.

He probably did so in last night’s episode of GGV; although it was implicitly done and he also made an attempt to retract it.

The episode was probably canned weeks ago because Vice has not been on “Showtime” for a couple of weeks and is apparently out of the country. The last tweet he made, I believe, was from Switzerland.

As his guests, he had the basketball Batman and Robin tandem of Benjie Paras and Ronnie Magsanoc. The matter of the mysterious ex-boyfriend almost invariably comes up whenever Vice has guests from the basketball world.

Just like those in the entertainment industry, those from the world of local basketball also know. That is why the identity of the mystery man has been something of an open secret.

At any rate, Vice was discussing the last UAAP basketball championship that the UP Maroons won 27 or so years ago when Magsanoc somehow found an opening to lead Vice on to the matter of the ex-boyfriend.

The conversation went like this:

Ronnie: Hindî ka nanunuod sa Maroon(s) ano?

Vice: Wala pô akong kilala sa UP Maroons eh...

Benjie: Walâ...

Ronnie: Sino’ng kilala mo ngâ?

Vice: UST ngâ sina Jeric Teng; La Salle sina Jeron Teng. Ateneo, Kiefer Ravena...

Ronnie: Kulang ah...

Vice: FEU Terrence Romeo ok na???!!! Ok pô ba kayo???!!! (He proceeds to gawk at Ronnie Magsanoc while the audience burst into giggles and applause.)

The Vice turns around and addresses the audience, “For once and for all, ok na ba kayo? Napapagod na rin kasi ako eh!” The succeeding line was beeped out so only the studio audience knows what he said.

He went on, “Uminit ang tenga ko, I swear. Na-stress ako...”

But then he seemed to suddenly realise the impulsiveness of his statements and tried to take these back.

“Hindî, mga kaibigan ko pô mga yun... Sina RR, sina Tolomia kaibigan ko mga ‘yun...”

Was the whole thing scripted? If it was, then it was masterfully crafted. There was no explicit admission of anything but the way the conversation went on, the public was informed of the mystery man’s identity without losing deniability.

Not that it really changes anything because everyone already seems to know, anyway.
