PHL Universities Ranking 2015: How DLSL and Other La Salle Schools Fared

The Philippine Universities Ranking 2015 was undertaken by the web site finduniversity.ph based on the last four board examinations. The ranking was based on a weighted board exams ranking arrived at by first determining how each higher education institution fared in each board exams then aggregating all these rankings.

This article focuses only on higher education institutions with board exam results in at least 10 programs. Hence, notably missing from the ranking are institutions such as Ateneo de Manila University and San Beda College.

The approach to the ranking is fairly straightforward and has not distinguished between degree and non-degree licensure exams. For instance, the Electrical Engineer licensure exams and the Master Electrician board exams are both taken by students and graduates of the BS Electrical Engineering program.

Just a word of caution to readers: since the ranking is based on board licensures alone, then the list obviously does not include institutions that have dedicated their efforts to non-licensure programs. Also, the ranking will not necessarily reflect areas for which institutions are evaluated like student services and infrastructure.

Finally, the word university is used in the context of the ranking as an institution that offers tertiary level education.

How La Salle Schools Fared

Five De La Salle Schools made it to the rankings: De La Salle University-Manila, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, De La Salle Lipa, University of St. La Salle (Bacolod) and La Salle University Ozamis.

DLSU-Manila ranks fourth nationwide behind three University of the Philippines campuses but is third in the National Capital Region. DLSU-Dasmariñas ranks 13th nationwide but is 2nd in the CALABARZON. Meanwhile, De La Salle Lipa is 17th nationwide but just behind DLSU-Dasmariñas at 3rd in the CALABARZON.

Of the remaining La Salle Schools, the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod is at 31st nationwide but first in Western Visayas. Finally, La Salle University in Ozamis is 78th nationwide and 6th in Northern Mindanao.

Institution Weighted Rank No. of Exams Nationwide Regional
DLSU-Manila 92.7% 13 4th 3rd
DLSU-Dasmariñas 88.7% 15 13th 2nd
De La Salle Lipa 88.3% 10 17th 3rd
USLS 83.8% 11 31st 1st
LSU-Ozamis 73.2% 13 78th 6th

In Batangas

In the Province of Batangas, De La Salle Lipa is at first; although it has to be said that it has the least number of board exams compared to the other three institutions who made it to the ranking.  It augurs well for the state of education in the province that four of its higher education institutions made it to the Top 60 nationwide.
